We had so much fun the first time, let's do it again!
Join Indianapolis photographer, Rad A. Drew, on a tour of abandoned sites in downtown Gary, Indiana.
Our last trip to Gary was great, still, we heard from a number of people who wanted to go, yet, for one reason or another, couldn't make it.
So! For those who had other commitments or who were waiting for warmer weather, or who couldn't do a two-day adventure, we are going again! This time for one day!
Gary, Indiana
In recent years, Gary, Indiana, a once thriving steel town, has experienced a decline known only in a few areas of the United States. The loss of jobs from the steel mills and refineries has led to an exodus from the city, leaving many of its once needed public buildings in ruin.
One of the gems of this abandoned collection of buildings is the City United Methodist Church, pictured below. In recent months, the roof of the church caved in, forcing the city to fence off the structure, in an attempt to keep people out.

For now, many of the other buildings are still accessible, but for how long is unknown. Rad will lead you through some of these other buildings, including the US Post Office and Union Station, pictured below.

What to Bring
Wear appropriate clothing to match weather conditions; a hat, light rain coat and an extra sweat shirt is always a good idea.
Since we'll be in abandoned buildings that are decaying, robust clothing, long pants and shirts are recommended, and sturdy boots are a must.
Bring only the gear you need: camera(s), lenses, tripods, filters, iPhones and accessories (especially batteries). We’ll be shooting all day with minimal breaks, so pack water and snacks to meet your needs. You may want your wide angle lens for shooting inside abandoned buildings.
